Drunken Asparagus with Feta and Prosciutto

drunken

DH came up with this recipe after we saw something similar at a local restaurant. The challenge was a homebrew party where you had to either make something with beer or pair it with beer. This recipe did both, and won 3rd place (as judged by Michigan Beer Blog).

Strawberry Freezer Jam

SAMSUNG

Two flats of gorgeous strawberries (minus the couple of quarts we ate). I searched through all my cookbooks and canning books. Balsamic strawberry jam? Rhubarb strawberry jam? Strawberry jam infused with lavender? In the end I decided to take a friend’s advice and just let the strawberries shine with regular old freezer jam.

Tuna Salad with Garlic Scape Pesto and Kale

salad

I’ve had this recipe in my head for awhile now. A pasta salad with tuna and Mediterranean flavors. On Saturday, my husband spent much of the day trimming trees in our backyard and then picking up the branches. Since I wasn’t sure when he’d take a break for lunch, I decided it was a great [...]

Scallops with Garlicky Rainbow Chard

chard

I love it when dinner is a team effort. DH decided to make scallops, so I pulled out a bunch of Swiss chard that I had just picked up from my CSA. In no time at all we had a delicious dinner on the table.

Braised Lettuce for One + CSA Bounty Week 1 & Garden Update

lettuce

My first pickup of the season: 1 bok choy, 1 bunch radishes, 1 bunch green onions, 2 heads lettuce, 1 head frisee, 1 lb spinach, 1 1/4 lb mixed greens. Whew, lots of green!

Pasta with Bacon and Mixed Greens

pasta

Here’s another super easy (and fast) “recipe” that I made up this past weekend. I have discovered that I much prefer to use the spicy salad green mix in cooked form rather than try to eat a salad that makes my eyes water. A quick saute’ makes the heat much more bearable.

Sauteed Bok Choy

bokchoy

Bok choy is, I think, my most favorite vegetable. So when I saw it at my first CSA pickup of the season I was ecstatic. If you’re not sure how to cook it, here is a fast and delicious method.

Rhubarb Sauce on Fish: FAIL!

rice

I’ve been told that people appreciate hearing about when things don’t go well in the kitchen, that it makes food bloggers seem more real. I’m pretty honest about how things turn out, and whether it’s the recipe or operator error. So in the spirit of full disclosure, I am sharing with you my most recent epic fail in the kitchen.

Spring Pasta with Greens and Chickpeas

pasta

I had a bag of spinach to use up and no idea what to do with it. I thought hmm, pasta sounds good tonight. So I searched the internet and found my inspiration from Aggie’s Kitchen.

Slow-Cooked Lamb with Rhubarb {with pressure cooker option}

lamb

Actually, the title of this recipe is a bit of a misnomer since I made it in the slow cooker. You can find the original, which is made in an oven, here. Or continue reading for my adaptations.
