Cooking and cooking-related posts took a backseat this long weekend as I had a brand new front yard garden installed. DH thinks I’m crazy, and I haven’t been this sore since I wed onions as a child, but I am loving the new conversations with neighbors.

I just realized that I haven’t given a garden update in awhile. We’ve been getting LOTS of rain this year, which means I haven’t had to water. Which is nice.

I now know why gardening can be so addictive. There is so much to learn! I think it’s going to be a life long process for me. I apologize for the advanced gardeners out there–these tips probably seem so . . . “duh.” Without further ado, this is what I learned this week:

I went to see my friend Holly today at the Franklin Farm. We used to work together. I really miss her! I had forgotten what a kindred spirit she is. She saw that I wanted herbs on FaceBook and offered to give me some of hers that needed to be divided. So I stopped by and toured the Franklin Farm.

You might have seen my backyard deck makeover last Friday. Now I’m hoping to make just as dramatic of a change to my front yard.

I was so excited when Collective Bias asked me to do a backyard makeover with Kmart. See, my deck is in pretty bad shape.
