It’s that time of year when people start spending more time indoors, and all kinds of viruses are going around. Recently I came down with a bad cough and cold, and Lisa, my favorite herbalist, was kind enough to make me a batch of soup that was just what I needed.
Although she didn’t give me the recipe, she did give me the ingredients, so I’ll bet I could figure out how to re-create it.
- chicken stock
- burdock root
- chili peppers
- fish sauce
In addition to the soup, I was able to get some of my fall herbal CSA share a bit early: “Kick the Ick,” which is a great immune booster, as well as “Cough Elixer.”
I’m still using over the counter medicines so I can keep going to work, but the herbal remedies are definitely helping! It’s also really neat seeing the plants that I learned about over the past few months in my foraging class in use.
One of the things I love about Lisa is her emphasis on locally, sustainably harvested herbs. You can read more about her Community Supported Wildcrafting efforts on her blog.
Do you use herbal remedies? Do you grow them yourself? Purchase them locally? Inquiring minds want to know!
