Strawberry Pie

pie

Strawberry season is much too short. There was only one vendor that had strawberries left at the farmer’s market today. I got enough for the pie and possibly ice cream, but might just eat them and make blueberry ice cream instead. That’s the joy of Simply in Season; it often provides variations so you can use what is . . . in season.

Don’t Ask When I’m Having Kids

boys

As my friend Holly pointed out, if you ask someone when they are having kids, the answer is that “you’ve either annoyed or depressed me.” I’ve come to accept that my furbabies, Grigio and Nero (above, they’re Italian Greyhounds), are the only children that DH and I will have unless we choose to adopt. Which [...]

I apologize for being a bit late in posting the winner. With the power outage and subsequent computer frying I didn’t have access to the internet. Barakoli Obama by Powered by Produce was the clear winner! Isn’t that super fun? Click the photo below to check it out! Also be sure to check out the [...]

10 Things I Did When I Was Without Power, then Internet and Cable

Sunday morning my husband and I were rudely awakened by a severe thunderstorm. There was a large clap of thunder and lightning, and I could feel it in my chest. DH said, “That sounded close.” Then another one struck, our alarm clocks sparked, and the lights went out. The smell of electrical components burning [...]

I was lucky to get some Jacob’s Cattle Beans for free from Marx Foods. I knew they’d be perfect for this recipe from Simply in Season.

CSA & Garden Update Week 3: 6/24

This week was a little slim as we wait for the summer veggies to come in. I ended up with lettuce, green onions, Swiss chard, kale, kohlrabi, bok choy, fava beans, and peas. I actually got a double portion of fava beans because my friend Cindy didn’t have time to pick hers. The fava beans [...]

Veggie Burrito Bake

The original recipe from Simply in Season calls for 16 cups of spinach. Unfortunately I don’t get near that much spinach from my CSA. But you know what I do get oodles of? Swiss Chard! So I substituted two bunches of Swiss Chard (one from last week’s pickup, one from this week’s) for this dish.

Marinated Radish Salad

IMG_1624

I was a little leery about this recipe when I first saw it in Simply in Season. In fact, I had lots of radishes last spring but didn’t do this recipe because I just wasn’t sure about it. However, once I decided to try to cook all the recipes in this cookbook I knew I’d [...]
